Tour bookings in three languages and in the traveller's currency
Santa Carolina Tours is a Chilean tour operator. Its customers arrive from abroad, read in their own language, think in their own currency and want to book a specific date. All three had to be solved on the site, not over email.
The starting point
Selling a tour is not selling a product: it is selling a seat on a date. If the visitor cannot see whether Thursday still has room, they write to ask — and the booking is lost in that gap.
And inbound tourism is international by definition. A site in a single language and a single currency asks the traveller to do the translating and converting right before paying.
What was built
A booking calendar over the catalog: every tour shows availability by date and is booked right there, with no email back and forth.
A catalog in three languages — Spanish, English and Brazilian Portuguese — not a machine translator bolted on top: each tour has its translated version with its own URL, which is what lets Google show it to a traveller searching in their own language.
And currency conversion, so the price reads in the visitor's own currency and the decision does not depend on opening another tab.
What changed in day-to-day operations
The site started taking bookings instead of generating emails. The team still answers questions, but no longer *is there room?* or *how much is that in euros?*.
